I am a sister on a Coronary Care Unit where we look after people who have been hospitalised with heart conditions, and are either awaiting their coronavirus results (we test all patients now) or who are positive.
At the start of lockdown our unit was closed and we were joined with another ward to pool staff. Several of my colleagues underwent intensive training to enable them to help out with staffing the increased ICU capacity the hospital had created, and many more were deployed onto the COVID wards – where most of the care has been end of life.
The full PPE for patients who are COVID positive is very hot and unpleasant.
In terms of breastfeeding support the group I ran obviously had to stop, and unfortunately due to having the kids around I’ve been unable to replace this with a virtual group.
However, now the girls are back in nursery, I’m hoping to get back up and running with the breastfeeding support as well.
